Line Pressure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Saturn Vue and 2002 Saturn Vue. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Install scan tool.
  2. Start engine and set parking brake.
  3. Check for stored DTCs, including DTCs for the line PC solenoid.
  4. Inspect transmission fluid level and manual linkage at transaxle. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in TRANSMISSION SERVICING.
  5. NOTE: Permatex High Temperature Thread Sealant (P/N 2145278) or equivalent must be applied to the threaded components of the line pressure gauge to ensure that no leakage occurs during testing.
  6. Remove the line pressure test hole plug and install VT25-E Line Pressure Gauge (J45195) or equivalent to the transaxle. See Fig 1 .
  7. Ensure the gearshift lever is in Park and the parking brake is set.
  8. Start the engine and allow the engine to warm up at idle.
  9. Access the line PC solenoid functional output control on the scan tool.
  10. NOTE: Maximum line pressure developed by the pump is affected by engine speed, to develop the pressure for the high pressure test point the engine speed must be between 1000 and 1500 RPM. A line pressure reading taken at a lower engine speed will be low and may lead to misdiagnosis.
  11. With the engine speed at idle, increase/decrease the commanded line PC solenoid amperage to 1.0 amps. Read and record the corresponding line pressure on the pressure gauge.
  12. Increase the engine speed to be between 1000-1500 RPM before performing the next step.
  13. Decrease the commanded line PC solenoid amperage to 0.2 amps. Read and record the corresponding line pressure on the pressure gauge. Compare the collected readings to the specification. See LINE PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  14. NOTE: Before reinstalling the line pressure test hole plug, apply Permatex Medium Grade Threadlocker Blue or equivalent to the thread of the plug.
  15. Remove the line pressure gauge and install the line pressure test hole plug. Tighten line pressure test hole plug to 80 INCH lbs. (9 N.m).
