Diagnostic Aids

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn LW200, 2002 Saturn L200, and 2002 Saturn L100. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

To locate an intermittent, use scan tool to monitor VEHICLE SPEED or TRANSMISSION OSS with vehicle raised and drive wheels moving more than 3 MPH. Wiggling wires while watching for a change in VEHICLE SPEED or TRANSMISSION OSS may locate area where an open or short to ground in wiring could lie.

If no OSS signal is received, speedometer will be inoperative. Once DTC is set, speedometer will be inoperative for rest of ignition cycle even if a valid signal is later received.

If PCM does not receive an OSS signal, PCM will command maximum line pressure. Shift timing will be affected as well.

OSS resistance should be 1530-1870 ohms.
