Diagnostic Procedures

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Saturn LW200, 2002 Saturn L200, and 2002 Saturn L100. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: If DTC P1640 is also set, check IGN 3 fuse located in underhood fuse block.
    NOTE: If engine has been operating, allow engine to cool down for about 1/2 hour before proceeding with test.
  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, monitor HO2S2 for one minute. If scan tool reading does not gradually change toward zero volts, go to next step. If scan tool reading gradually changes toward zero volts, problem is intermittent. See DIAGNOSTIC AIDS  .
  2. Check EIS fuse (10-amp) in underhood fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is open, check for short to ground in Pink wire. Repair as necessary.
  3. Raise vehicle. Disconnect HO2S2 harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and HO2S2 harness connector terminal "D" (Pink wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Pink wire between HO2S2 and underhood fuse block. Repair as necessary.
  4. Turn ignition OFF. Using DVOM, measure resistance of Black/White wire between HO2S2 and PCM. If resistance is more than 2 ohms, repair open in Black/White wire between HO2S2 and PCM. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Using a DVOM, measure resistance or HO2S2 heater. If resistance is 10-15 ohms, check connector terminals. If terminals are okay, replace PCM. If resistance is not 10-15 ohms, replace HO2S2.
