Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection

  1. Remove the crankshaft position sensor bolts from the engine front cover.
  2. Remove the crankshaft position sensor.

    CAUTION: Refer to Cleaning Solvent Caution in Cautions and Notices.
  4. Clean the engine front cover with cleaning solvent.
  5. Inspect the engine front cover sealing surfaces for damage.
  6. Inspect the engine front cover threaded holes.
  7. Repair or replace the engine front cover as necessary.

  9. Install the crankshaft position sensor to the engine front cover.
  10. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  11. Install the crankshaft position sensor bolts. Apply threadlock GM P/N United States 12345382, GM P/N Canada 10953489 or the equivalent to the threads.

    Tighten:  Tighten the crankshaft position sensor bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
