Wiper Always On - Rear

1 Did you review the Rear Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections? Go to Step 2  Go to Symptoms - Wiper/Washer Systems

  1. Turn the ignition ON.
  2. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
Is the rear wiper always on?
Go to Step 3  Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the rear wiper motor connector.
  2. Turn the rear wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Connect a test lamp from the rear wiper switch signal circuit terminal in the rear wiper motor harness connector to ground.
  4. Turn the ignition ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 5  Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a test lamp from the rear washer pump control circuit terminal in the rear wiper motor harness connector to ground.
  2. Turn the ignition ON.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
Go to Step 6  Go to Step 8 
5 Test the rear wiper switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 7 
6 Test the rear washer pump control circuit for a short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
Go to Step 9  Go to Step 7 
7 Replace the rear wiper/washer switch.
Is the repair complete?
Go to Step 9  -
8 Replace the rear wiper motor. Refer to Wiper Motor Replacement - Rear .
Is the repair complete?
Go to Step 9  -
9 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
System OK Go to Step 3
