Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Pontiac Aztek and 2004 Buick Rendezvous. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove liftgate trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (Aztek)  or Trim Panel Replacement - Liftgate (Rendezvous) .
  2. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to Window Replacement - Liftgate (Pontiac) or Window Replacement - Liftgate (Buick) in Stationary Windows.
  3. Remove the liftgate latch strikers. Refer to Latch Striker Replacement - Liftgate (Aztek)  or Latch Striker Replacement - Liftgate (Rendezvous) .
  4. Remove the liftgate bumper mounting brackets.
  5. Disconnect the liftgate electrical connector.
  6. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Strut Replacement - Liftgate .

  7. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges to the liftgate with a grease pencil.
  8. Remove the bolts from the liftgate hinges, with an assistant.

  9. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle, with an assistant and place outside face down on a clean padded surface.
