Conditions for Clearing the DTC

DTC P0A82 (ESB Fan Stuck Off)

Schematic Reference:  Starting and Charging Schematics (Except HP2)  or  Starting and Charging Schematics (HP2) 
Connector End View Reference:  Engine Electrical Connector End Views 
DEFINITION: The energy storage box (ESB) fan is inoperative.
1 Did you perform the Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check? - Go to Step 2  Go to Diagnostic System Check - Engine Electrical

  1. Start the engine.
  2. Turn ON the auxiliary power outlet (APO) switch.
Does the energy storage box (ESB) fan operate?
- Go to Blower Motor Malfunction in HVAC Systems - Automatic Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the ESB fan connector.
  3. Start the engine.
  4. Turn ON the APO switch.
  5. Connect a test lamp between the ESB fan supply voltage circuit and the ESB fan ground circuit.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
- Go to Step 8  Go to Step 4 
4 Connect a test lamp between the low reference circuit of the ESB fan and battery positive voltage.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
- Go to Step 5  Go to Step 7 
5 Connect a test lamp between the battery positive voltage circuit of the ESB fan and a good ground.
Does the test lamp illuminate?
- Go to Step 8  Go to Step 6 
6 Repair the battery positive voltage circuit of the ESB fan. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  -
7 Repair the ground circuit of the ESB fan. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you complete the repair?
- Go to Step 14  -

  1. Connect a volt meter between the ESB fan speed signal circuit and the low reference circuit of the ESB fan.
  2. Turn the APO switch ON and OFF.
Does the voltmeter read between the correct values?
0 V OFF and 7 V ON Go to Step 10  Go to Step 9 
9 Test the ESB fan control circuit of the ESB fan for an open, short to ground, or short to voltage. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 11 
10 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the ESB fan. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 13 
11 Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the energy storage control module (ESCM). Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
Did you find and correct the condition?
- Go to Step 14  Go to Step 12 
12 Replace the ESCM. Refer to Energy Storage Control Module Replacement (5.3L Engine w/RPO HP2) .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 14  -
13 Replace the ESB fan. Refer to Energy Storage Box (ESB) Fan Replacement (5.3L Engine w/RPO HP2) .
Did you complete the replacement?
- Go to Step 14  -
14 Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
Did you correct the condition?
- System OK Go to Step 2
