Removal Procedure

- Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Remove the differential assembly. Refer to Differential Replacement (8.6 Inch, 9.5 Inch Axles) , Differential Replacement (9.75 Inch Axle) or Differential Replacement (10.5 Inch, 11.5 Inch Axle) .
- Remove the pinion gear bearing retainer. Refer to Drive Pinion Housing and/or Seal Replacement .
- Remove the pinion and the pinion bearings. Refer to Drive Pinion Housing and/or Seal Replacement .
- Remove the ring gear bolts. Discard the bolts.
- Remove the ring gear from the differential. Drive the gear off with a brass drift if necessary.
IMPORTANT:
The ring gear bolts have left-hand threads.
