Fuel Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative

- Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), located under left side of dash. Turn ignition on. Select INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER, SPECIAL FUNCTIONS, IPC GAUGES. Observe fuel gauge while commanding fuel gauge UP and DOWN. Fuel gauge should read at or near full when commanded UP and at or near empty when commanded DOWN. If gauge operates as specified, go to next step. If gauge does not operate as specified, go to step 5).
- Select DATA DISPLAY, then DATA on scan tool. If MONITORED FUEL LEVEL display on scan tool is within approximately 15 percent of amount displayed on fuel gauge, check for intermittent condition. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If MONITORED FUEL LEVEL display on scan tool is not within 15 percent of amount displayed on fuel gauge, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, compare MONITORED FUEL LEVEL with DISPLAYED FUEL LEVEL. If MONITORED FUEL LEVEL on scan tool is within approximately 15 percent of DISPLAYED FUEL LEVEL, check for intermittent condition. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If MONITORED FUEL LEVEL on scan tool is not within 15 percent of DISPLAYED FUEL LEVEL, go to next step.
- Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SYSTEM CHECK under SYSTEM TESTS.
