Caliper Disassembly (Rear Disc Brakes): Installation
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 30 other vehicles, including the 1998 Pontiac Trans Sport, 1998 Oldsmobile Silhouette, 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada, 1998 GMC Yukon, and 1998 GMC Suburban. NOTE:
Requires Piston Sealer Installer (J24548).
- Lubricate the new piston seal, caliper bore, piston, and seal lips on boot with clean brake fluid.
- Install the piston seal. Make sure the seal is not twisted in caliper bore groove.
- Install the boot on Seal Installer (J24548). Place a large diameter of boot over tool first and carefully work smaller diameter onto tool. Slide large diameter off tool.
- Install large lip of boot in caliper bore groove. Lip of boot must firmly sit in groove.
- Install the piston inside Seal Installer (J24548). See Fig 4.
- Install piston halfway into bore. Remove Seal Installer (J24548). Make sure boot is firmly seated.
- Install bleeder valve. Tighten the bleeder valve to 62 INCH lbs. (7 N.m).
