Front Brake Pads: Installation

  1. Install new anti-rattle clips to the inside ends of the caliper mounting bracket.
  2. Install brake pads to the caliper mounting bracket.
  3. Install brake caliper.
  4. Install wheels.
  5. Remove safety stands.
  6. Lower vehicle.
  7. With engine off, gradually apply brake pedal about 2/3 of the pedal's travel distance.
  8. Slowly release brake pedal.
  9. Wait 15 seconds, then repeat applying brakes until a firm pedal is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  10. Fill brake master cylinder to proper level.
  11. Burnish pads and rotors. To burnish pads and rotor, select a smooth road with little or no traffic. Accelerate vehicle to 30 MPH. Avoid overheating brakes while performing this procedure. Using moderate to firm pressure, apply brakes to bring vehicle to a stop. DO NOT allow brakes to lock. Repeat about 20 stops. Allow sufficient cooling periods between stops in order to properly burnish the brake pads and rotors.
