Disc Brake Backing Plate (Rear): Removal

  1. Release parking brake.
  2. Raise and support vehicle.
  3. Remove wheels.
  4. Relieve tension from parking brake cables by loosening the nut at the equalizer.
  5. Remove parking brake cable from the mounting bracket by depressing the locking tabs. See PARKING BRAKE CABLE (FRONT)  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Remove rear parking brake cable from parking brake actuator lever. See PARKING BRAKE CABLE (LEFT REAR)  or PARKING BRAKE CABLE (RIGHT REAR)  .
  7. Remove rotor.
  8. On AWD models, remove axle shaft. See appropriate DRIVE AXLES article.
  9. On all models, remove parking brake shoe.
  10. Remove backing plate nuts.
  11. Remove backing plate from axle housing flange.
