Brake Pads - Rear: Removal
- Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.
- If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full and the minimum allowable level, remove the brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.
- Raise and support the vehicle.
- Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
- Install a large C-clamp over the top of the brake caliper housing and against the back of the outboard brake pad.
- Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the piston is fully seated in the caliper bore.
- Remove the C-clamp from the brake caliper.
- Remove the brake caliper assembly from the mounting bracket. See BRAKE CALIPER - REAR .
- Using denatured alcohol, clean the brake pads and related parts.
- Using non-lubricated, filtered compressed air, dry the brake pads and related parts.
- Remove the rear brake pads. See Figure.
- Remove the rear brake pad anti rattle spring from the brake caliper.
- Remove the anti rattles springs from the mounting bracket.
- Inspect the brake caliper. See DISC CALIPER INSPECTION under ADJUSTMENTS & INSPECTION.
