Park Brake Hardware Inspection

  1. Raise and support the vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel.
  3. Remove the rear brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Using denatured alcohol, clean the rear brake assembly.
  5. Using non-lubricated filtered air, dry the rear brake assembly.
  6. Visually inspect the park brake hardware for the following:
    • Excessive Corrosion
    • Excessive Stretching
    • Broken Components
    • Bent Components
    • Twisting Or Binding
    • Missing Components
  7. If any of the conditions listed were found, the park brake hardware requires replacement.
  8. Install the rear brake drum. See BRAKE DRUM  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  9. Install the tire and wheel. Tighten the wheel nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
