Drum Brake Hardware Inspection

  1. Visually inspect the drum brake system return springs for the following:
    • Excessive corrosion.
    • Damaged or bent locating pins.
    • Broken spring coils.
    • Damaged retaining cups.
  2. Visually inspect the hold-down springs for the following:
    • Excessive corrosion.
    • Excessive stretching.
    • Broken hook ends.
    • Twisting or binding.
  3. If any of the conditions listed were found, the drum brake system hardware requires replacement. See DRUM BRAKE ADJUSTING HARDWARE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
