Installation Procedure

- Install the backing plate to the axle housing flange
NOTE: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems
- Install the backing plate nuts. Tighten the backing plate bolts to 135 N.m (100 lb ft).
- Install the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Shoe Replacement (15/25/35 Series - Except RPO NYS - 4-Wheel Steering)
- Install the axle shaft. Refer to REAR AXLE SHAFT REPLACEMENT (8.6 & 9.5 INCH AXLES) or REAR AXLE SHAFT REPLACEMENT (9.75 INCH AXLE)
- Adjust the park brake shoe. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment
- Install the rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (Except Dual Wheels or NYS) or Rear Brake Rotor Replacement (Dual Wheels)
- Install the park brake cable to the mounting bracket until the locking tabs snap into place
- Install the rear park brake cable to the park brake actuator lever
- Tighten the nut to the intermediate cable at the equalizer. Tighten the nut to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in).
- Install the tire and wheel assembly
- Remove the safety stands
- Lower vehicle
- Adjust park brake cable. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment
