Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Always Indicates Low

  1. With engine running, compare actual oil pressure with oil pressure gauge reading. If readings are within 10 psi (0.7 kg/cm2 ), gauge is operating properly. Check engine mechanical condition. If readings are not within 10 psi (0.7 kg/cm2 ), go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Oil Pressure Gauge Sensor (OPS) harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using Tester (J-33431-B), connect Red tester lead to Tan wire terminal of oil pressure gauge connector and Black lead to ground. Adjust tester to 88 ohms and observe oil pressure gauge. Oil pressure gauge should indicate approximately 80 psi (5.6 kg/cm2 ). If oil pressure gauge indicates low, or no pressure, go to next step. If oil pressure gauge indicates high pressure, replace OPS.
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Check continuity between ground and instrument cluster harness connector terminal B8 (Tan wire). If continuity does not exist, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Tan wire.
