Speedometer/Odometer Inoperative (Diesel)

  1. Check function of Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and Vehicle Speed Sensor Buffer (VSSB). See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If problem is resolved, system is operating properly, no further action is required. If problem is not resolved, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Disconnect VSSB and Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connectors. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between instrument cluster harness connector terminal B14 (Dark Green wire) and ground. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Dark Green wire.
  3. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between instrument cluster harness connector terminal B14 (Dark Green wire) and VSSB harness connector Dark Green wire terminal. If test continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Dark Green wire.
