Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Is Inaccurate

  1. With engine running, compare actual oil pressure with oil pressure gauge reading. If readings are within 10 psi (0.7 kg/cm2 ), gauge is operating properly. Check engine mechanical condition. If readings are not within 10 psi (0.7 kg/cm2 ), go to next step.
  2. Disconnect Oil Pressure Gauge Sensor (OPS) harness connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using Tester (J-33431-B), connect Red tester lead to Tan wire terminal of oil pressure gauge (component side) connector and Black lead to ground. Adjust tester to zero ohms and then to 88 ohms. Observe oil pressure gauge. Oil pressure gauge should indicate approximately zero and then 80 psi (5.6 kg/cm2 ). If oil pressure gauge indicates correctly, replace OPS. If oil pressure gauge does not indicate correctly, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Connect a fused jumper wire between instrument cluster (component side) connector terminal B17 (Pink wire) and battery power. Connect a second fused jumper wire between instrument cluster (component side) connector terminal B13 (Black/White wire) and ground. Using Tester (J-33431-B), connect Red tester lead to instrument cluster (component side) connector terminal B8 (Tan wire) and Black lead to ground. Adjust tester to zero ohms, and then to 88 ohms. If oil pressure gauge indicates correctly, repair Tan wire as necessary. If oil pressure gauges does not indicate correctly, replace instrument cluster.
