Transmission Range Indicators (PRNDL) Inaccurate Or Inoperative

NOTE: After each repair procedure has been completed, reconnect all components. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS.
  1. Perform INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC) SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM TESTS. Go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition on. Move shift lever through all positions and observe transmission range indicators. If PRNDL display matches each actual gear position, check for intermittent in wiring or connections. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If PRNDL display does not match each actual gear position, go to next step.
  3. If vehicle is equipped with column shift, go to next step. If vehicle is not equipped with column shift, go to step  5 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). Turn ignition on. Place shift lever in Park position. Using scan tool, observe park switch parameter in IPC DATA LIST. If scan tool displays CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display CLOSED, go to TRANSMISSION RANGE INDICATOR (PRNDL) PARK INDICATOR INOPERATIVE  .
  5. Using scan tool, command each parameter ON in PRNDL display, SPECIAL FUNCTIONS. If IPC does not display correct gear for each command, go to next step. If IPC displays correct gear for each command, check park/neutral position switch and adjust or replace as necessary. See PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION (PNP) SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Replace IPC. See INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER (IPC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest operation.
