Diesel (Dual Tank)

NOTE: On primary fuel tank, resistance between terminals "A" and "B" at fuel gauge sender (component side) should be zero ohms when tank is empty and 90 ohms when tank is full. On secondary fuel tank, resistance between terminals "A" and "D" at fuel gauge sender (component side) should be zero ohms when tank is empty and 90 ohms when tank is full.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect fuel pump balance module harness connector. Using a fused jumper wire ground terminal "F" (Purple wire) at fuel pump balance module harness connector. See Figure. Turn ignition on. If fuel gauge indicates empty, go to step  5. If fuel gauge does not indicate empty, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Check continuity of Purple wire between terminal "F" at fuel pump balance module harness connector and terminal No. 16 at instrument cluster harness connector. See Figure and Figure . If continuity does not exist, go to step  4. If continuity exists, go to next step.
  3. Replace instrument cluster.
  4. Repair open in Purple wire between fuel pump balance module and instrument cluster.
  5. Turn ignition off. Check continuity between ground and terminal "E" (Black/White wire) at fuel pump balance module harness connector. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, go to step  12.
  6. Measure resistance between terminals "B" (Light Blue wire) and "E" (Black/White wire) at fuel pump balance module harness connector. Resistance should be zero ohms when tank is empty and 90 ohms when tank is full. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, go to step  13.
  7. Disconnect secondary fuel tank fuel gauge sender harness connector. Measure between terminals "A" and "D" at secondary fuel tank fuel gauge sender (component side). Resistance should be zero ohms when tank is empty and 90 ohms when tank is full. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, go to step  9.
  8. Replace secondary fuel tank fuel gauge sender.
  9. Check continuity in Light Blue wire between terminal "B" at fuel pump balance module harness connector and terminal "D" at secondary fuel tank fuel gauge sender harness connector. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step  11.
  10. Repair open in Light Blue wire between secondary fuel tank fuel gauge sender and fuel pump balance module.
  11. Repair open in Black/White wire between secondary fuel tank fuel gauge sender and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  12. Repair open in Black/White wire between fuel pump balance module and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  13. Measure resistance between terminals "C" (Dark Blue/White wire) and "E" (Black/White wire) at fuel pump balance module harness connector. Resistance should be zero ohms when tank is empty and 90 ohms when tank is full. If resistance is not as specified, go to next step. If resistance is as specified, go to step  19.
  14. Disconnect primary fuel tank fuel gauge sender harness connector. Measure between terminals "A" and "B" at primary fuel tank fuel gauge sender (component side). Resistance should be zero ohms when tank is empty and 90 ohms when tank is full. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, go to step  18.
  15. Check continuity in Dark Blue/White wire between terminal "C" at fuel pump balance module harness connector and terminal "B" at primary fuel tank fuel gauge sender harness connector. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, go to step  17.
  16. Repair open in Dark Blue/White wire between primary fuel tank fuel gauge sender and fuel pump balance module.
  17. Repair open in Black/White wire between primary fuel tank fuel gauge sender and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  18. Replace primary fuel tank fuel gauge sender.
  19. Replace fuel pump balance module.
