Test 4: Fuel Gauge Always Indicates Empty: Gasoline

NOTE: Before performing this test procedure, check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). If DTCs P0641, P0642 and/or P0643 exist, perform appropriate repair procedure. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector. Disconnect Vehicle Control Module (VCM) Blue harness connector C1. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 16 (Purple wire) at instrument cluster harness connector. See Figure. If continuity exists, go to step  3. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  2. Repair short to ground in Purple wire between VCM and instrument cluster.
  3. Replace instrument cluster.
