Fuel Gauge Always Indicates Full (Single Tank Diesel)

  1. Disconnect fuel pump sending unit/pump connector. Using jumper wire, connect harness connector terminal "B" (Purple wire) to ground. Turn ignition on. If fuel gauge does not read empty, go to next step. If fuel gauge reads empty, replace sending unit.
  2. Turn ignition off. Check resistance between sending unit connector terminals "A" and "B". Resistance should be between zero ohms (empty) and 90 ohms (full). If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace sending unit and retest.
  3. Reconnect sending unit connector. Remove IPC. Check resistance between IPC connector terminal No. 16 (Purple wire) and ground. Resistance should be between zero ohms (empty) and 90 ohms (full). If resistance is as specified, replace IPC. If resistance is not as specified, repair open circuit on Purple wire and retest.
