Diagnostic Procedures
- If OBD system check has been performed, go to next step. If OBD system check has not been performed, go to ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Check if DTC P0370 is set. If DTC P0370 is set, go to DTC P0370 test. If DTC P0370 is not set, go to next step.
- Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Using scan tool, observe injection pump closure time. If scan tool displays injection pump closure time is greater than 2.4 milliseconds, go to next step. If scan tool displays injection pump closure time is 2.4 milliseconds or less, go to step 5.
- Turn on all accessories. Start and idle engine. Ensure all post glow plug cycles are complete. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at FUEL SOL fuse (fuel solenoid driver ignition feed circuit) in underhood relay center. If voltage is 12-15 volts, go to step 7. If voltage is not 12-15 volts, go to step 6.
- DTC is intermittent. If no additional DTCs are set, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS . If any additional DTCs are set, go to applicable DTC test.
- Check fuel solenoid driver ignition feed circuit for poor connections or aftermarket add-ons. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 8.
- Replace fuel injection pump. If fuel injection pump is replaced, new pump must be timed. See appropriate ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. After replacing injection pump, go to next step.
- Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, and then enter DTC P1217. Operate vehicle within the conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this test ran and passed, repeat step 2.
- Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO. If any undiagnosed DTC(s) are displayed, go to applicable DTC test.
