Circuit Description

Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor is a Permanent Magnet (PM) generator mounted to transmission case extension. Vehicle speed is signaled to VCM by speed sensor. PM generator produces a pulsating AC voltage as speed sensor rotor teeth pass sensor's magnetic field. VCM converts AC voltage into digital signal. VCM uses vehicle speed to determine shift timing and TCC apply and release. OSS sensor resistance value is 1042-2088 ohms. DTC P0502 will set if VCM detects a low vehicle output speed when vehicle has high engine speed in drive gear.
