Circuit Description

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 14 other vehicles, including the 1998 GMC Savana Special, 1998 GMC Savana Camper Special, 1998 GMC Savana, 1998 Chevrolet RV Cutaway, and 1998 Chevrolet Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Transmission input speed sensor consists of a permanent magnet surrounded by a coil of wire. Rotation of forward clutch housing induces an AC voltage in circuit. Signal voltage and frequency vary with forward clutch rotational speed. VCM converts AC voltage into digital signal. AC voltage level increases as turbine shaft speed increases. VCM determines actual turbine speed using digital signal. VCM uses input speed to calculate torque converter slip speed and gear ratios. P0716 will set if VCM detects an unreasonably large change in input speed in a short period of time.
