Transfer Case Will Shift Ranges When Transmission Is In Park

  1. If ATC system check was performed, go to next step. If system check was not performed, see ATC SYSTEM CHECK  .
  2. Set parking brake. Shift transmission into "P" position. Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Using scan tool, read park/neutral switch position. If scan tool displays switch is open, go to next step. If scan tool does not display switch is open, go to step 4).
  3. Inspect TURN-B/U fuse. If fuse is open, go to step 5). If fuse is not open, go to step 6).
  4. Replace ATC control module. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . Reconnect all disconnected components. When repair is complete, go to step 11).
  5. Locate and repair source of overload, then replace TURN-B/U fuse. When repair is complete, go to step 11).
  6. Disconnect park/neutral position switch. Connect test light between ground and switch Light Green wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If test light is on, go to step 8). If test light is off, go to next step.
  7. Locate and repair open in Light Green wire. When repair is complete, go to step 11).
  8. Connect fused jumper wire between terminals "B" and "C" at switch connector. Using scan tool, read park/neutral switch position. If scan tool displays switch is open, go to next step. If scan tool does not display switch is open, go to step 10).
  9. Locate and repair open in Light Green wire circuit between ATC control module connector terminal F15, stop light switch and park/neutral position switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If wire circuit is okay, replace ATC control module. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION  . When repair or replacement is complete, go to step 11).
  10. Replace park/neutral position switch. When repair is complete, go to next step.
  11. Turn ignition off. Reconnect all previously disconnected components. Turn ignition to run position (engine off). Using scan tool, read park/neutral switch status while shifting transmission between "P" and "D" positions. If switch status changes between open and closed while shifting positions, system is functioning properly. If status does not change while shifting positions, repeat test from step 1).
