Preliminary Diagnosis

  1. Ensure all mechanical components are operating properly before diagnosing electrical system. To determine if vehicle is in 2WD or 4WD, lift vehicle so wheels can spin freely while changing between 2WD and 4WD settings.
  2. Ensure 4WD, TCASE, GAUGES and ILLUM fuses are not open. If fuses are open, locate and repair source of fuse/circuit overload and replace fuses before proceeding.
  3. Check for broken or partially broken wire inside of insulation which could cause system failure, but will appear okay during continuity or voltage checks with system disconnected. Check circuits by monitoring fuse voltage drop with system operational (under load). Ensure aftermarket equipment (if equipped) which may affect integrity of electronic systems has been installed properly.
