Model NV 246 transfer case is a 2-speed unit that utilizes a part time front axle. Transfer case is a 2-piece magnesium case unit. System allows driver to select transfer case position with the touch of a button. Transfer case has 5 different shift positions. These positions are4-wheel drive high (4H), all wheel drive (AUTO), 2-wheel drive high (2H), Neutral (N) and 4-wheel drive low (4L). Automatic Transfer Case (ATC) control module controls all shifting action of transfer case based on input from driver as well as information from Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and Vehicle Control Module (VCM).
