Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Perform Powertrain ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC (OBD) SYSTEM CHECK. See the BASIC TESTING article. Then go to next step.
  2. Ignition off. Disconnect Engine Shutoff (ESO) harness connector. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using test light connected to ground, probe ESO harness connector terminal "B" (ignition feed). If test light is on, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 5).
  3. Turn ignition off. Using test light, jumper ESO harness connector terminals together. Turn ignition on, with engine off. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, go to step 6).
  4. Check the ESO and PCM harness connectors for poor connections. Repair or replace terminals as necessary. After repairs, go to step 9). If connectors and terminals are okay, go to step 7).
  5. Check ESO ignition feed circuit for open or faulty fuse and repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 9).
  6. Check for open, poor PCM connection or circuit shorted to ground. Repair as necessary. After repairs, go to step 9). If circuits are okay, go to step 8).
  7. Replace injection pump. After replacing injection pump, go to step 9).
  8. Replace PCM. Program PCM using required equipment. After replacing PCM, go to next step.
  9. Using scan tool, select DTC, CLEAR INFO. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Select DTC, SPECIFIC, then enter DTC P0215. Operate vehicle within the conditions for setting this DTC. If scan tool indicates that this test ran and passed, go to next step. If scan tool does not indicate that this test ran and passed, repeat step 2).
  10. Using scan tool, select CAPTURE INFO, REVIEW INFO. If any undiagnosed DTC(s) are displayed, go to applicable DTC test.
