Brake Warning Light Inoperative
- If warning light is completely inoperative, go to step 6). If warning light is inoperative with parking brake only, go to step 2). If warning light is inoperative when ignition is cycled only (ABS self-test), go to step 3). If warning light is inoperative with low fluid pressure only, go to step 4). If warning light is inoperative when ignition switch is in bulb test position only, go to step 5). If warning light is inoperative for all condition except park brake, repair open in Tan/White wire between Diode 1 and Daytime Running Lights (DRL) module. Repair open in Purple wire between Diode 1 and splice S157. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If Tan/White and Purple wires are okay, replace Diode 1.
- Disconnect park brake warning switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper between park brake warning switch connector Light Blue wire and ground. If warning light illuminates, check switch adjustment and switch connection to ground. If okay, replace park brake switch. If warning light does not illuminate, repair open Light Blue wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) 10-pin connector. EBCM is located near brake master cylinder. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper between EBCM 10-pin connector terminal "H" (Purple wire) and ground. See Fig 1
. If warning light illuminates, see ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM article in BRAKES section.
If warning light does not illuminate, repair open Purple wire between splice S157 and EBCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect brake pressure warning switch connector. Turn ignition on. Connect fused jumper between brake pressure warning switch connector Purple wire and ground. If warning light illuminates, check for open in brake pressure warning switch Black wire to ground. If Black wire is okay, see BRAKE SYSTEM article in BRAKES section for combination valve diagnosis. If warning light does not illuminate, repair open Purple wire between splice S157 and brake pressure warning switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Backprobe with a fused jumper between ignition switch connector Light Blue wire and ground. Turn ignition switch to bulb test. If warning light illuminates, repair open Black wire between ignition switch and ground. If Black wire is okay, replace ignition switch. If warning light does not illuminate, repair open Light Blue wire between DRL module and ignition switch. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Disconnect instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect test light between instrument cluster connector terminal No. 22 (Pink wire) and ground. See Fig 2 . If warning light illuminates, check for open Black wire between brake pressure warning switch and ground. Check for open in Tan/White wire between instrument cluster and DRL module. If Tan/White and Purple wire are okay, replace DRL module. If warning light does not illuminate, repair open Pink wire between fuse block and instrument cluster.
