Fuel Gauge Indicates Empty At All Times (Dual Tanks)

  1. Disconnect fuel pump balance module connector. Turn ignition on. If fuel gauge indicates empty, go to next step. If fuel gauge indicates above empty, go to step 3).
  2. Disconnect IPC connector. Connect self-powered test light between IPC connector terminal No. 16 (Purple wire) and ground. If test light does not come on, replace IPC. If test light does come on, repair short to ground in Purple wire between fuel pump balance module and IPC.
  3. Disconnect balance fuel gauge sender connector. Connect self-powered test light between fuel pump balance module connector terminal "B" and ground. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light does come on, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between fuel pump balance module and balance fuel gauge sender.
  4. Connect a self-powered test light between fuel pump balance module connector terminal "B" and balance fuel gauge sender connector terminal "D" (Light Blue wire). If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open circuit in Light Blue wire.
  5. Connect a self-powered test light between balance fuel gauge sender connector terminal "A" (Black/White wire) and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open circuit in Black/White wire between balance fuel gauge sender and ground.
  6. Connect ohmmeter between balance fuel gauge sender terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "D" (Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 110 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 100 ohms or more, replace balance fuel gauge sender.
  7. Reconnect balance fuel gauge sender connector. Disconnect fuel pump and sender. Connect self-powered test light between fuel pump balance module connector terminal "C" (Dark Blue/White wire) and ground. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/White wire between fuel pump balance module and fuel pump and sender.
  8. Connect self-powered test light between fuel pump balance module connector terminal "C" (Dark Blue/White wire) and fuel pump and sender. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open circuit in Dark Blue/White wire between fuel pump balance module and fuel pump and sender.
  9. Connect self-powered test light between fuel pump and sender connector terminal "A" (Black/White wire) and ground. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, repair open circuit in Black/White wire between fuel pump and sender and ground.
  10. Connect ohmmeter between fuel pump and sender terminals "A" (Black/White wire) and "B" (Dark Blue/White wire). If resistance is 100 ohms or less, replace fuel pump balance module. If resistance is over 100 ohms, replace fuel pump and sender.
