DTC 10 - Brake Switch Circuit: Notes

NOTE: Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  before performing trouble shooting procedure.
  1. Turn ignition on. Backprobe Pink wire terminal of brake switch connector with a voltmeter. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to step 3). If voltage is not 8-15 volts, go to next step.
  2. Repair open or short to ground in the Pink wire circuit. Clear DTCs. Refer to CLEARING CODES  . Perform testing procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  .
  3. Backprobe Purple wire terminal of brake switch connector. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to next step. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, replace brake switch. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES  . Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  .
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBCM 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between Purple wire and Black wire terminals of EBCM 6-pin connector. If voltage is 9-15 volts, go to step 6). If voltage is not 9-15 volts, go to next step.
  5. Repair open or short to ground in Purple wire circuit. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES  . Perform testing procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  .
  6. Check for poor connections at brake switch. If connections are okay, go to next step. If connections are not okay, repair connections as necessary. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES  . Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  .
  7. Turn ignition off. Connect EBCM 6-pin connector. Connect scan tester to DLC. Test drive vehicle above 45 MPH. Stop vehicle and check BRAKE light. If BRAKE light is on, go to step 9). If BRAKE light is not on, go to next step.
  8. An intermittent fault exists in brake switch circuit. Recheck brake switch connections. Test drive vehicle above 45 MPH. Stop vehicle and turn ignition off. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES  . Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  .
  9. Turn ignition off. Check for stored trouble codes. See RETRIEVING CODES  . If a DTC other than 10 is present, go to that DTC. If no DTCs other than 10 are present, clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES  . Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  .
