Test Description

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Chevrolet S10 Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK  before performing trouble shooting procedure.
  1. Road test vehicle and check speedometer operation. If speedometer was erratic or dropped out at low speeds, go to step 3). If speedometer was not erratic or did not drop out at low speeds, go to next step.
  2. If RWAL system was activating at low speeds and light pedal pressure on dry pavement, go to next step. If RWAL system was not activating at low speeds and light pedal pressure on dry pavement, go to step 4).
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) connector. Measure resistance across VSS terminals. If resistance is 900-2000 ohms, go to step 5). If resistance is not 900-2000 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Replace VSS. See VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS) . After replacing VSS, clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES . Perform procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  5. Disconnect VSS buffer connector. Measure resistance in Purple/White wire between VSS and VSS buffer. If resistance is not more than 10 ohms and is not erratic, go to step 7). If resistance is more than 10 ohms or is erratic, go to next step.
  6. Repair open or high resistance in Purple/White wire circuit. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES . Perform procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  7. Measure resistance in Light Green/Black wire between VSS and VSS buffer. If resistance is not more than 10 ohms and is not erratic, go to step 9). If resistance is more than 10 ohms or is erratic, go to next step.
  8. Repair open or high resistance in Light Green/Black wire circuit. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES . Perform procedures under SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  9. Connect VSS connector and VSS buffer connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminals No. 12 and No. 5 of DLC. See Figure. If voltage is 8-15 volts, go to step 11). If voltage is not 8-15 volts, go to next step.
  10. Repair open or high resistance in White wire circuit between EBCM 6-pin connector and DLC. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES . Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
  11. Disconnect EBCM 6-pin connector. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between White wire/Black wire terminals of EBCM 6-pin connector. If voltage is 8-15 volts, repair intermittent connection in White wire circuit. If voltage is not 8-15 volts, repair open or high resistance in White wire circuit. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING CODES . Perform SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC CHECK .
