Gauge Indication Is Inaccurate

Check wiring for corroded or loose connections. Clean and tighten as required. If wiring and connections are okay, remove fuel gauge sending unit. Measure sending unit resistance. Refer to the FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE table.
If sending unit resistance is as specified, unplug front body wiring harness connector at engine firewall. Connect Gauge Tester (J-24538-A) to instrument cluster terminal W (Purple wire). See Figure .
Turn ignition on. Set tester to resistances in table. See the FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE table. If gauge indicates accurately when connected to gauge tester, check wiring between fuel tank and front connector. If gauge indicates between 1/4 and 1/2 full when tester is set at 90 ohms, replace cluster.
