Temperature Gauge Inoperative Or Inaccurate

  1. Disconnect temperature sender connector. Connect Gauge Tester (J24538-A) to sender wire connector and ground. Turn ignition on. If gauge responds okay, replace sender. If gauge reads beyond hot end of scale, go to step 4).
  2. If gauge does not respond correctly, disconnect engine harness connector. Attach Gauge Tester (J24538-A) to temperature gauge wire terminal. If gauge responds okay, check wiring between sender connector and engine harness connector.
  3. Repair as necessary. If gauge does not respond correctly, remove gauge. Check for loose gauge terminal nuts, loose cluster connector or open connections at gauge. Repair loose open connections as necessary. If connections are okay, replace gauge.
  4. Remove gauge. Check for loose terminal nuts and/or lack of ground connection. Repair connections as necessary. If connections and ground are okay, replace gauge.
