Gauge Reading Is Inaccurate

  1. Disconnect fuel gauge sending unit wire. Connect Red lead of Gauge Tester (J 33431-B) to sending unit connector Pink wire. Connect other wire to ground. Adjust tester resistance dials to zero ohm, then to 90 ohms.
  2. Gauge should read empty, then full. If gauge responds correctly, check fuel tank ground wire for high resistance and repair if necessary. If ground circuit is okay, replace fuel tank sending unit.
  3. If gauge does not respond correctly, check for high resistance in Pink wire. If Pink wire is okay, replace instrument cluster
