Gauge Reads Hot When Engine Is Cold

  1. Turn ignition on. Remove connector from temperature gauge sending unit. If gauge reading goes down to 100°F, replace externally shorted sending unit.
  2. If temperature gauge continues to read 260°F, check for short to ground in wiring circuit between sending unit and gauge. If circuit is okay, replace temperature gauge.
