EGR System Operation Check

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Ram Wagon, 1995 Dodge Ram Van, 1995 Dodge Pickup, 1995 Dodge Dakota, and 1995 Dodge Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Warm engine to operating temperature. Check condition of all EGR system tubes, hoses and electrical connections.
  2. Start engine. Snap throttle to 2000-2800 RPM and check for EGR valve stem movement. If EGR stem moves, proceed to EGR GAS FLOW TEST. If no stem movement occurs, see TESTS W/CODES - 3.9L article in the ENGINE PERFORMANCE section for further testing procedures.
