Air Bag Control Module (ACM): Removal

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  .
  2. ACM is located behind instrument panel. Remove driver-side knee bolster. On column shift vehicles, place gear shift lever in position "1". Remove shift indicator cable retaining clip and indicator cable. See Fig 1 .

  3. On all models, remove 2 steering column support bracket-to-instrument panel nuts. Remove both cowl kick trim panels. Remove both "A" pillar trim panels. Remove 5 upper instrument panel retaining screws.
  4. Loosen lower instrument panel retaining screws. Roll instrument panel rearward. Disconnect ACM connectors. Remove ACM mounting screws and ACM.
