Passenger-Side Air Bag Module: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. If air bag has not deployed, go to next step. If air bag has deployed, go to step 3).
  2. If air bag has not deployed, disconnect glove box door straps and allow door to open fully. Remove 4 module screws from bracket. Locate access hole at center of module mounting bracket. Use a large flat screwdriver through access hole and pry module up to release door from trim pad snaps. Hold module door open and remove module. Using a shop towel to protect trim pad, rest module on trim pad and disconnect both connectors. Remove passenger-side air bag module.
  3. If air bag has deployed, ensure negative battery cable is disconnected and isolated. Wearing eye protection, rubber gloves, and a long-sleeved shirt, fold air bag toward instrument panel. Close door over folded air bag and tape door closed. Disconnect glove box door straps and allow door to open fully.
  4. Remove 4 module screws from bracket. Locate access hole at center of module mounting bracket. Push a large, flat screwdriver through access hole and pry module up to release door from trim pad snaps. Hold module door open and remove module. Using a shop towel to protect trim pad, rest module on trim pad and disconnect both connectors. Remove air bag module. Inspect trim pad and instrument panel for cracking or surface marks and replace as necessary.
