Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

  1. If replacing a deployed air bag, clockspring must be replaced. Before proceeding, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS. Set steering wheel and front wheels in straight ahead position. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM.
  2. Clockspring is located behind steering wheel. See Fig 1 . Remove air bag module and steering wheel. See AIR BAG MODULE & STEERING WHEEL. Disconnect horn connector. Remove cruise control switch and connector (if equipped). Remove upper and lower steering column shrouds to gain access to clockspring wiring.

  3. Disconnect 2-way clockspring harness connector, between clockspring and instrument panel wiring harness, on top of fuse block (all others).
  4. Remove clockspring by releasing 2 tabs on side of clockspring. Clockspring cannot be repaired and must be replaced if faulty.
