Valve Guides

- Check valve stem-to-guide oil clearance. Ensure valve stem diameter is within specification. Ensure valve guide I.D. and oil clearance is within specification.
- Valve guide must be reamed for valve with oversize valve stem if oil clearance or valve guide I.D. exceeds specification. See CYLINDER HEAD SPECIFICATIONS table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.NOTE: DO NOT ream valve guides from standard to maximum oversize in one step. Ream valve guides to oversize in gradual steps so valve guides are reamed true in relation to valve seat. After reaming valve guides, valve seat runout must be checked.
- Valves are available with oversize valve stems of .005" (.13 mm), .015" (.38 mm) and .030" (.76 mm). Cylinder head must be replaced if valve guide cannot be cleaned using a .030" (.76 mm) reamer.
