Thrust Bearing

  1. Two types of thrust bearings are used, one with positioning tabs and another without. One set of thrust bearings (one with positioning tab and one without tab) fit in cylinder block, and another set in main bearing cap assembly at No. 3 main bearing.
  2. Thrust bearing without positioning tab fits on front (timing belt side) of cylinder block and rear (flexplate side) of main bearing cap assembly. Thrust bearing with positioning tab fits on rear (flexplate side) of cylinder block and on front (timing belt side) of main bearing cap assembly. Groove side on thrust bearing goes toward crankshaft.
  3. Replace thrust bearing if crankshaft end play is not within specification. See CRANKSHAFT , MAIN & CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS.
