Removal & Installation (Gears & Shafts)

  1. Remove oil pan and oil pick-up tube. See OIL PAN  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove timing belt. See TIMING BELT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Remove crankshaft sprocket bolt. Using Crankshaft Sprocket Puller/Installer (C-4685) and puller insert, remove crankshaft sprocket. See Figure. Remove crankshaft seal retainer.
  3. Remove chain cover, guide and tensioner. See Figure. Remove balance shaft chain sprocket bolts and crankshaft balance shaft chain sprocket Torx bolts. Remove chain and sprocket assembly. Remove gear cover double-ended stud.
  4. Remove gear cover and balance shaft gears. Remove rear cover, and remove balance shafts from carrier.
  5. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure correct timing of balance shafts and crankshaft. See ALIGNING BALANCE SHAFTS.
