Test 90A - Poor Sound Quality From One Speaker

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.
  1. If problem speaker is an Instrument Panel (IP) or a door speaker, go to step 5). If problem speaker is a rear speaker, disconnect problem speaker and go to next step.
  2. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on speaker connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on speaker connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Dark Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Dark Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect radio Black connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between speaker connector terminals No. 2 (Brown/Light Blue wire on left rear speaker; Dark Blue/Orange wire on right rear speaker) and No. 3 (Brown/Yellow wire on left rear speaker; Dark Blue/White wire on right rear speaker). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair wires shorted together. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace speaker.
  5. If problem speaker is an IP speaker, go to step 9). If problem speaker is a door speaker, disconnect problem speaker and go to next step.
  6. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on speaker connector terminal No. 4 (Black/Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/Red wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance on speaker connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Dark Green wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Dark Green wire. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect radio Black connector and Gray connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between speaker connector terminals No. 2 (Brown/Red Blue wire on left door speaker; Dark Blue/White wire on right door speaker) and No. 3 (Dark Green wire on left door speaker; Violet wire on right door speaker). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair wires shorted together. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace speaker.
  9. Disconnect problem IP speaker connector. Check IP speaker for proper installation. Correct IP speaker installation as necessary. If IP speaker is properly installed, replace speaker.
