Test 103A - Diagnosing Oil Indicator Light (On Base Mic)

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS section at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-1B after each repair.

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.

NOTE: This test is for vehicles equipped with a base instrument cluster (without oil gauge).

Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read oil pressure sending unit status. If scan tool does not display OIL PRS LOW CLOSED, go to TEST 103B. If scan tool displays OIL PRS LOW CLOSED, check oil indicator light. If oil indicator light is not on, go to TEST 103F. If oil indicator light is on, go to next step.
Start engine. Using scan tool, read oil pressure sending unit status. If scan tool does not display OIL PRS LOW OPEN, go to next step. If scan tool displays OIL PRS LOW OPEN, turn ignition off. System is operating properly at this time.
Disconnect oil pressure sending unit connector. If indicator light goes out, replace oil pressure sending unit. If indicator light does not go out, go to next step.
Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) Natural connector. BCM is located behind left side knee panel. Turn ignition on. If indicator light goes out, replace BCM. If indicator light does not go out, go to next step.
Disconnect instrument cluster connector (located behind instrument cluster assembly). Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of oil instrument cluster connector terminal No. 8 (Gray wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster.
