Test NTC-7A - Checking Water-In-Fuel Light

NOTE:
This test only applies to problems with WATER-IN-FUEL light.
- Disconnect water-in-fuel sensor connector. Connect a jumper wire between water-in-fuel sensor connector, water-in-fuel sense circuit (Dark Green/Red wire), and chassis ground. Turn ignition off, then on. If WATER-IN-FUEL light glows, perform TEST NTC-7B. If WATER-IN-FUEL light does not glow, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of water-in-fuel sense circuit (Dark Green/Red wire) between water-in-fuel sensor connector and PCM connector terminal No. 1. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, repair open Dark Green/Red wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, turn ignition on.
- Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage of PCM connector water-in-fuel sense circuit (Dark Green/Red wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-1.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, remove and inspect WATER-IN-FUEL light bulb. Replace bulb as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1. If bulb is okay, reinstall bulb. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, backprobe message center connector ignition 12-volt feed circuit (Light Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Light Green/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, connect jumper wire between message center connector WATER-IN-FUEL light driver circuit (Tan/Orange wire) and ground. If WATER-IN-FUEL light glows, repair open Tan/Orange wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If WATER-IN-FUEL light does not glow, replace message center printed circuit assembly. Perform TEST VER-1.
