Test NTC-6A - Checking Wait-To-Start Light
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Dodge Pickup and 1995 Dodge Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
section at the end of this article.
NOTE:
This test only applies to problems with WAIT-TO-START light.
- While observing WAIT-TO-START light, turn ignition on. If WAIT-TO-START light does not glow, go to step 3). If light does not glow continuously, system is operating normally. Test is complete. If light comes on and stays on, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. While observing WAIT-TO-START light, turn ignition on. If WAIT-TO-START light glows, repair WAIT-TO-START light driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) for a short to ground. Perform TEST VER-1. If WAIT-TO-START light does not glow, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-1.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 56, WAIT-TO-START light driver circuit (Orange/Black wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-1.
- If voltage is 10 volts or less, remove and inspect WAIT-TO-START light bulb. If bulb is burned-out, replace bulb. Perform TEST VER-1. If bulb is okay, reinstall bulb. Backprobe 12-volt feed circuit (Light Green/Yellow wire) at message center connector. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Light Green/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-1.
- If voltage is more than 10 volts, connect jumper wire between message center connector WAIT-TO-START light driver circuit (Orange/Black wire) and chassis ground. If WAIT-TO-START light glows, repair open Orange/Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1. If WAIT-TO-START light does not glow, replace message center printed circuit assembly. Perform TEST VER-1.
