Test NS-2A - Inspecting Fuel Shutdown (FSD) Relay & Solenoid

  1. Observe position of FSD solenoid plunger. Crank engine for 3 seconds. DO NOT turn ignition off. If FSD solenoid plunger position is changed, FSD solenoid is operating properly at this time. Perform TEST NTC-8A.
  2. If FSD solenoid plunger position has not changed, manually retract FSD solenoid plunger and release. If FSD solenoid plunger remains retracted, go to step 6).
  3. If FSD solenoid plunger does not remain retracted, turn ignition off. Disconnect and inspect FSD solenoid connector. Repair as necessary. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  4. If connector is okay, turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on FSD relay connector ignition switch output circuit (Light Green/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Light Green/Black wire. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  5. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of FSD relay connector ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Tan wire. PerformTEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FSD solenoid. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  6. Disconnect FSD solenoid connector. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on FSD solenoid connector relay output circuit (Red/Violet wire) while cranking engine. If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 8).
  7. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of FSD solenoid connector ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Tan wire. PerformTEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FSD solenoid. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  8. Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Violet wire between FSD solenoid connector and FSD relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Red/Violet wire. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  9. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage on FSD relay connector fused B+ circuit (Red/Black wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Red/Black wire. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  10. If voltage is more than 10 volts, using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of FSD relay connector ground circuit (Black/Tan wire). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Black/Tan wire. PerformTEST VER-1A.
  11. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, remove starter relay. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Brown wire between FSD relay connector and starter relay connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Brown wire. PerformTEST VER-1A. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace FSD relay. Perform TEST VER-1A.
